Wildfire Impact Prediction:
How does electricity use correlates with wildfire occurrences and strength or weather changes? What kind of reconstruction/recovery expenditure are we looking at every (wildfire) season? Using datasets of electricity uses in CA and wildfire reports (kaggle, wildfireDB), a correlation between electricity usage (dataset) and wildfire can be established addressing the first question. Using damage reports of wildfire (US, LA), and perhaps zonings and city maps (openstreetmaps), we can estimate and predict seasonal total damage caused by wildfire as a metric. A few simple metrics to start can be 1. Fire damage as total number of structures affected by wildfire 2. Total area of human habitats (cities, towns) affected or 3. a total cost of reconstruction and recovery (this can be estimated by analytically estimating costs of individual components, houses, roads in the affected area, housing dataset). Thus, an optimization model can be constructed to minimize potential reconstruction cost reduction based on reduction of electricity use (paper, paper, metric). Time permitting, a planning system can be implemented to recommend electricity use next season based on or reduction of reconstruction costs (paper).
