Ferhat Karabatman, Arash Karimi

Soccer is the world’s most popular sport, uniting billions of fans across nations and cultures. Recently, many star players have moved from Europe’s top leagues to emerging markets such as Saudi Arabia and China for lucrative contracts. This project investigates whether these transfers lead to a decline in player performance and national team contributions compared to peers who remain in highly competitive leagues. By analyzing open datasets (e.g., FBref, Transfermarkt), the study explores whether league competitiveness provides more long-term value than financial incentives.
