Road work, accidents, and planned closures cause traffic delays; the benefits of construction must be balanced against the immediate impacts to travel time. In this project, we ask what can be done to mitigate these impacts; in particular, whether the timing of a traffic event correlates with the resulting traffic delays. Our conclusion is affirmative – road work and closures have a greater impact on travel time in the middle of the day, and a lesser impact at night.
