There is a public perception that aviation is less safe in 2025 than it was even a few years ago. To what extent is this perception grounded in reality? Although fatal aviation accidents are rare, they occur when multiple redundancies fail. We study self-reported incidents sourced from the NASA ASRS database (https://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/) to identify trends in how aviation safety has evolved over time, explore the causes of these trends, and predict aviation incident rates over the next few years.
