Analyzing the Impact of News Topics on S&P 500

clear.png

This project aims to investigate the relationship between news headlines and fluctuations in the SPX, or the index that tracks the S&P500. In particular, it will focus on how news for a given company in the S&P 500 affects the price of the index as a whole. This project is similar to the "Analyzing the Impact of News Topics on Stock Prices" project below.
A rough idea is to look at daily news for each of the companies in the S&P 500, and using machine learning techniques, identify a weighting to determine which companies have the greatest influence in the change of the overall SPX index for any given day.
The data sets are not yet finalized; this project would similarly use datasets to the previously mentioned project, whose description lists datasets including "comprehensive news data, financial records, and potentially real-time news APIs."
